March 04, 2010
(Ottawa) – The Government of Canada is building a strong economic future for Manitobans through job creation, economic growth and debt reduction says the Honourable Steven Fletcher, Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia and Minister of State (Democratic Reform)

“Our Government is taking steps to ensure Canada remains a global economic leader,” said Fletcher. “Manitobans will see benefits from the completion of Phase II of the Economic Action Plan and initiatives that will ensure we have a strong economy down the road.”

The 2010 Budget, tabled today by Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, will complete Phase II of the Economic Action Plan and lays out a plan to return Canada to balanced budgets. The Budget includes:
  • $3.2 billion in personal income tax relief
  • $7.7 billion in infrastructure stimulus to create jobs
  • Investments in research and innovation
  • Reductions in taxes and paperwork for businesses
  • New support for youth employment
  • A three-point plan for returning to a balanced budget

Manitoba will benefit from Economic Action Plan projects such as the $2.8 million investment over the next two years to support the capital and operational requirements of the Keewatin Railway Company.

“Our Government has been responsible in managing Canada’s finances,” said Fletcher. “Today’s Plan will carry forward the tradition to secure our long-term economic growth.”
