Fletcher applauds Manitoba MP Hoeppner’s work to eliminate long-gun registry
November 05, 2009
Ottawa - The Honourable Steven Fletcher, Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia, issued the following statement today on Conservative MP Candice Hoeppner’s Private Member’s Bill C-391, which seeks to eliminate the long-gun registry.

“I would like to congratulate Candice Hoeppner for her Private Member’s Bill C-391 being adopted at Second reading today. This Bill is a step forward in putting an end to Canada’s ineffective long-gun registry.

“This registry, brought in by the Liberals has wasted billions of taxpayers’ dollars but has not cracked down on crime.  Bill C-391 is an important piece of legislation helping hard-working farmers and hunters who are unfairly targeted under the current long-gun registry.

“Candice Hoeppner’s hard work and dedication to her Private Member’s Bill was a key role in it passing second reading. I would also like to congratulate Yorkton-Melville MP Garry Breitkreuz for a decade of hard-work on this issue.
